ADMINISTRATIVE HISTORY

The first administrative committee, which came into existence in 1953 following the first democratic Panchayat election held in the Travancore region, was headed by Shri K. Sankaranarayanan Potti.The Chairman of the second administrative committee, which came into effect on January 1, 1954, was Shri N. Raveendran Nair. Subsequently, Smt. Bhanumathy was elected as the Panchayat's first woman President by the committee.The first Panchayat under the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act of 1994 came into force after the administrative body that assumed power in the 1988 election. The Chairperson of the committee that took office in 1995 was Smt. A. Sarojini Amma.In the elections held in September 2000 and 2005, the Panchayat under the chairmanship of Shri K. Vamadevan held the reins of administration.After the term of the administrative committee ended on September 30, 2010, an Administrative Committee consisting of officials held charge for one month. Subsequently, a 19-member Panchayat assumed office on November 1, 2010, following the election on October 23, 2010, and Smt. C. Rugmini Amma was elected as the President.In the election held in 2015, the 19-member Panchayat assumed charge with Shri Vishnu B. being elected as the President.Following this, the local body election in 2020 was delayed due to COVID-19, and the Administrative Committee was in charge for approximately two months. The new body then took office in December 2020, and Smt. G. Santhakumari was elected as the President. Subsequently, after two and a half years, Smt. Susmitha S. assumed the post of President through a by-election.
